Overview of the Honours Program
The Honours year is an additional (fourth) year of specialised study. Students entering the accounting and business information systems honours program may with approval select a course purely in accounting and business information systems or with overlap to take in some subjects from other commerce disciplines (finance, actuarial studies, economics, management). Students offered a place in the accounting and business information systems honours program complete coursework subjects and a research essay on a topic in the accounting and business information systems discipline. The honours program is conducted by academics specialising in teaching and research in one or more of the following broad areas: management accounting, financial accounting, business information systems or auditing.
The emphasis of the honours program is to develop students' applied analytical and problem solving skills, communication, presentation skills, and research skills. To this end, the content and delivery of the honours program is designed to provide students with frameworks for systematic enquiry, technical and research skills enabling analysis, and communication and presentation skills facilitating intellectual exchange and articulate reporting of outcomes.
If you are unsure about the benefits of undertaking the Honours year, you will find it helpful to read the program welcome by Professor John Lyon, Program Director.
