Scholarships
The Department has a number of scholarships for students who wish to undertake full-time PhD studies. Each scholarship is for a three-year period, and covers tuition fees and a generous living stipend. When applying for the PhD program you will automatically be considered for the departmental full-time PhD scholarships.

The Peter Brownell PhD Scholarship
Donors: The fund was established by friends and associates of the late Peter Brownell, Professor of Accounting from 1991 until 1997.Selection Criteria: Student enrolled in the second year of the PhD degree in Accounting who was awarded the highest mark in the first year coursework program.

Applications: Applications are not necessary. The award will be made at the commencement of each academic year to the student who meets the selection criteria.

Bailleu Research Scholarship
Value: $18,277 per annum (2005 rate) and other benefits as per the MRS.
Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships and Melbourne International Research Scholarships
The MIRS provides a living allowance of $18,660 per annum (2006 rate) and other benefits such as a thesis allowance. The value is reviewed annually. The University usually awards up to 60 new MIFRSs each year, with each faculty having a limited number to award. They cover full tuition costs, but not overseas student health care.
International Postgraduate Research Scholarships
Each year these highly competitive Australian Government scholarships are awarded to students commencing a research higher degree course. To be considered for an IPRS, applicants need to have an unconditional offer of a place in a research higher degree course (eg masters by research, PhD or other research doctorate) at the University of Melbourne .
IPRSs cover full tuition fees for each year of the course and the annual Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
Students awarded an IPRS by the University of Melbourne also normally receive a MIRS (living allowance). Students transferring with an IPRS from other institutions are not guaranteed an allocation of a MIRS.
Melbourne Research Scholarships
Each year the University of Melbourne awards around 100 MRSs to local applicants. The value of the MRS is $18,660 p.a. (2006 rate).
Australian Postgraduate Awards
Each year the University of Melbourne awards around 180 new APAs to local applicants. The value of the APA is $19,231 p.a. (2006 rate).
