Who we are
The Department of Accounting and Business Information Systems is one of four departments within the Faculty of Economics and Commerce. As one of the largest and oldest accounting departments in Australia, we attract the highest calibre of academic staff and students.
Currently, we have more than 40 academic staff engaged in teaching and research across the financial accounting, management accounting, auditing and assurance services, and accounting information systems disciplines, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Many of our academic staff have experience in industry and the profession, and provide advice as consultants and expert witnesses. They have the experience to blend theoretical and practical knowledge in their teaching.
At the undergraduate level, the Department teaches into the Bachelor of Commerce. At the postgraduate level, management and marketing programs are offered through the Melbourne Graduate School of Management.
The Head of Department is Professor John Lyon.
